The winning AI model is becoming a temporary condition
Google’s Gemini 4 Argon is broadly available at a frontier-leading introductory price and narrowly tops an independent economic-work index just as rivals converge. Organisations should not turn today’s winner into a permanent architecture: the durable asset is a portable acceptance test that measures cost per verified outcome, operating controls and the evidence required to switch.
The most consequential fact about the new number-one AI model is how little confidence anyone should place in the number one.
Google released Gemini 4 Argon globally on 13 October, moving it from restricted access into the API, Gemini app, Search and the company’s Antigravity coding environment. It arrived at an introductory price of $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens. The independent Vals Index now places it first on a basket of finance, coding, legal and tax tasks.
